Merv Millar

Merv Millar host of Waipuna Accommodation

Merv resides at Waipuna full time, and takes expert care of the many New Zealand and international guests who come to stay. He comes from a rural background, and is particularly ‘famous’ for the top quality breakfasts he prepares for Waipuna’s guests!

For 14 years, Merv was a coach driver and tour guide throughout New Zealand, giving him a first-hand knowledge of many exciting destinations, particularly in the South Island. Starting Waipuna has enabled him to extend this love of meeting people and he takes genuine pleasure in seeing guests have a great experience while travelling in New Zealand. Merv’s knowledge of the country is second-to-none, and he regularly provides tour-planning assistance for Waipuna’s guests, helping them to add some more out-of-the-way and unique places and experiences to their itineraries.

At Waipuna, guests (many of whom hail from large international cities) often enjoy the opportunity to sit with Merv over a meal and a glass of wine, and learn a little about everyday life in New Zealand.

Sarah Smith

Sarah Smith

Sarah lives with her husband and three young children in a village not far from Waipuna Estate. She looks after the wedding side of the business, and also has her own thriving baking business called Hello Gateau making exquisite, handcrafted cakes, including wedding cakes.

Sarah has a varied background, having travelled and worked in commercial kitchens and hospitality, and more recently recruitment and human resources. She is a highly organised person, and is very detail and systems orientated. Working with people and creating strong connections is one of her passions. She believes it is a true privilege to be involved in weddings, and loves to guide couples through the process of planning their special day, making it as stress-free for them as possible.

Even after organising many weddings, Sarah still gets a huge thrill from bringing all the elements together to create a fabulous wedding atmosphere at Waipuna, and to see lots of happy guests celebrate the bride and groom’s marriage.

Her goal is always to end a wedding with a couple feeling they have had the best day of their lives. She takes a sense of pride and huge satisfaction in assisting to make their big day super special.
