Activities you can do while staying at Waipuna Estate:
You can’t help but give into the peace, tranquillity and utter relaxation of Waipuna Estate. But if you are keen to head out and engage in some activities, there are some great local attractions close by.
Just a short drive away is the historic village of Tai Tapu, where you can take an easy stroll, have a round of golf on the local course, play tennis, or explore the delightful St Paul’s Church and library.
Christchurch city, just 25 minutes away, also has lots great attractions, activities and places to visit. We are happy to help you plan your local itinerary during your stay.
Your host Merv Millar was a coach driver and guide throughout New Zealand for 14 years, and is happy to provide you with personal tour planning assistance and advice for your holiday, including exciting day trips or longer journeys throughout the South Island. If wining and dining is on your agenda, you’ll find some sumptuous options including The Store @ Tai Tapu, in the heart of the village, which offers a unique blend of food, coffee, wine and giftware. You’re sure to find something to tempt your taste buds.
Another local favourite is The Raspberry Café where you can sample beautiful food and coffee and pick up some delectable seasonal berries to take away with you. Also nearby is the charming Bicycle Thief, which serves modern European cuisine, sourcing local and seasonal produce, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Christchurch also has cafes and restaurants galore, with something for every taste.
If you’re keen to indulge in a spot of shopping, there are some great stores in Tai Tapu. In Christchurch you will find everything from vintage clothing, to high-end fashion stores and international clothing brands, along with some wonderful homeware stores, and galleries. We recommend visiting the new city centre, where you’ll find the iconic Ballantynes department store, the BNZ Centre, ANZ Centre and The Crossing, which have an eclectic mix of great stores and cafes. The Tannery, in the suburb of Woolston, and the Colombo in Sydenham are other unique shopping destinations well worth a visit. Both have a boutique cinema complex.
